I assist on plumbing designs and I hope to start learning HVAC design soon!
Why do you enjoy working the engineering/design/construction field?
It’s an interesting sector of engineering and I find it a unique challenge.
What drew you to Gibbens Drake Scott, Inc.?
I was impressed to see a company that had been around for almost 40 years, small enough to fit in one building, and yet had large contracts with household names. I knew there must be something special about a company that could do that.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I never could decide, but it was always going to be something technical. I played with Legos all the time, and I was always curious about how things worked. I took apart a computer when I was 10 years old just to see what was inside.
What inspires you?
My parents inspire me because they both have reinvented themselves and started new careers even into their 50s. My father was in the Air Force for 20 years and now works from home doing online training development. My mother has had success in all of her half-dozen different careers, from being a college professor to working as an emergency room nurse.
What accomplishment or award you are most proud of?
I’m most proud of being accepted into the US Navy’s NUPOC program in 2019. It was an experience that changed the entire trajectory of my life.
Tell us a little bit about your background.
I graduated college in December 2021 and went to Officer Candidate School for the US Navy, and I received a medical discharge in August 2022, which allowed me to continue pursuing my career of engineering in the civilian world.
What is a special talent or a strength you have?
I’ve been a musician since elementary school, and I can pick up most stringed instruments and learn them quickly. I’m an upright bassist for my college town’s community orchestra, and I’ve played in jazz ensembles for years.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I always enjoy trying new restaurants and seeing new places with my partner, and we make a habit of going to downtown KC’s City Market on the weekends for the local vendors. I also love taking long walks with my dog in the afternoons.
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Determined, adaptable & optimistic.
