Intern Spotlight: Alejandro Lopez
Electrical Engineering Intern Q&A
Current School: The University of Kansas
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am starting my senior year this coming semester, Fall 2021. I enjoy cooking, reading, and going for walks to enjoy the nature of Kansas City.
What have you been focusing on during your internship?
Learning everything I can from my peers! I feel like I barely scratched the surface of what I could learn here at GDS.
What made you want to become an engineer?
I was always good in math and science, plus I always liked building things so engineering just seemed to fit perfectly. The electrical, I would say, comes from my love of electronics. I’m fascinated by how we harness electricity to benefit our everyday lives.
What has been your favorite part of the internship?
I’ve enjoyed getting to learn about new things such as computer programs, reading plans, and learning about how the industry works.
What was your most memorable experience this summer at GDS?
Getting to go out and do site visits. It’s one thing to work on a project through the computer, but it’s completely another to actually go see the real thing being created in person.
What was the most exciting project you worked on?
I would have to say it was helping to set up the lighting and power for the fifth and sixth floor of the Shamrock building.
What advice would you give to future interns?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Everyone is always willing to help or explain.
Anything else you would like to share?
I like how the atmosphere at GDS is like that of a family. I would definitely recommend an internship here to future students.
